Political development in genetic testing.

This is an overview of the issue of genetic testing from a government relations perspective, and how it may be, or more likely is, already affecting your job. Some readers are intimately involved with this issue, and others may be less familiar with the political ramifications of advances in the genetic sciences on the insurance industry. For those of you already following this issue, I hope to give you one or two new insights. For those of you who have not been following the genetic information debate, this is an area in which you or someone from your company needs to be involved. This issue has the potential of fundamentally changing the way our industry does business. If our industry loses this debate, the risk classification system as we know it will no longer exist. I will be depicting a broad picture of the battleground on which the genetic testing debate is taking place. I will also attempt to explain why we have seen such a rapid increase in legislation in this area.
